There are many types of fungi in nature, about 120000, of which more than 170 can produce fungal toxins. They are widely present in soil, air, water, and decaying organic matter worldwide. There are more than 300 types of fungal toxins, mainly produced by four fungal genera: Aspergillus (mainly secreting aflatoxins, ochratoxins, etc.), Penicillium (mainly secreting kumquat, etc.), Ergota (mainly secreting ergot toxin), Clostridium (mainly secreting vomitoxin, zearalenone, T-2 toxin, Fusarium oxysporum toxin, etc.).
 
Fungal toxin contamination is widespread and severe in grains worldwide, with approximately 80% of regions threatened by fungal toxins. Every year, 31 million tons of grain in China are contaminated with fungal toxins during production, storage, and transportation, accounting for about 6.2% of the total annual grain production. Excessive levels of fungal toxins have become the biggest obstacle for China's agricultural products to be exported to the European Union, causing huge losses to China's grain and oil processing and export enterprises.

 Fungal toxin immunoaffinity column
